Anaarkali of Aarah, starring Swara Bhaskar, has hit the screens recently. Now let’s see what the movie has in store for us.

Swara Bhaskar belongs to Arah in Bihar and she is seen in the role of an item girl in the movie. She has attractive vocals and gets the attention of the audiences through her double meaning lyrics. She basks in the stardom that she has attained. The civilized society doesn’t like her songs and lyrics but she doesn’t seem to mind that. But what cannot be withstood by her is being taken for granted in the public by Sanjay Mishra, a famous politician.

Star Performances

Swara Bhaskar, who rose to fame with Tanu Weds Manu, is given a meaty role where she does her best. She is seen as a bold woman who won’t back up on pressure. Pankaj Tripathi has always been an actor to watch out for but in this film he doesn’t have a susbstantial role. Ishtiyak Khan leaves an impression. The rest of the cast including Sanjay Mishra, Mayur More, Vijay Kumar, Nitin Arora etc. are cast appropriately.

The movie has a sense of reality of its own which will astound you. The movie centers on a woman who wages a battle to maintain her right to dignity. Bollywood has not often worked on films that take the lives of musicians who sing and dance to maintain a living. The dancing part is mostly exaggerated in the Bollywood movies. Sometimes one would feel that there is no authenticity. Here then, Anarkali of Aara is a bold endeavor by the director.

What’s there?

Avinash Das, who is the writer and director of the movie, has taken a risky subject. However, he has managed to provide powers to the way the movie goes forward. Through his commendable direction and writing, one could empathize with the protagonist of the movie.

• The music gels well with the tempo of the movie.

What’s not there?

There is dearth of a strong villain in the movie.

Hindi cinema has found a liking for powerful woman protagonists of late and Anarkali of Aarah can be included in the list. Some may like this movie and some may not like...
