Plot 

The film is set in the year 2050 and the film’s protagonist is Norah Price, played by Kristen Stewart. Norah is a mechanical engineer on Kepler 822, a research and drilling facility located in the Mariana Trench. One day, the facility is hit by what is assumed to be a powerful earthquake which destroys parts of the facility. Norah and her colleagues Rodrigo, played by Mamoudou Athie, and Paul, played by T.J. Miller try to leave via the escape pods but are shocked to discover that all the escape pods had been deployed. They also find Captain Lucien, played by Vincent Cassel, biologist Emily Haversham, played by Jessica Henwick, and engineer Liam Smith, played by John Gallagher Jr., and decide to walk on the ocean floor to another facility Roebuck 641 one mile away. The film follows their journey across the ocean floor, and their fight for survival with an unknown, dangerous enemy on the prowl.

Star Performance 

Kristen Stewart delivers a stellar performance in the film. Her acting makes the imminent danger palpable to the viewers. Jessica Henwick and Vincent Cassel also give good performances. 

Analysis 

“Underwater” combines elements of a disaster and a monster film. This combination works well but fails at some moments. The plot becomes boring and predictable halfway.
