If you ever found yourself wondering how the continents are aligned the way it is today and how the whole continental drift started all those million years ago, then think no more. It was Scrat, the tiny squirrel, obsessed with his acorn. Although, no one can really blame him, it was all an accident.
When the tectonic plates have started moving underneath, above the ground, Manny and her daughter Peaches are trying hard to resolve their father-daughter issues. However, after a confrontation, Manny gets separated from his herd due to the continental break-up. He finds himself trying hard to get back to the land with Diego, Sid and Sid’s grandma on top of a large chunk of ice. In this process, they come into the sights of an evil seafaring pirate, Captain Gutt and his crew, who forces them to join their crew. As Manny and his friends somehow escape them and try to find a way back, Manny’s family is also in danger back home as the shifting tectonic plates are making the ground beneath their feet untrustworthy.
With a lot more action sequences than the last three prequels of the Ice Age Click to look into! >> Read More... series, this movie definitely sets a mark. The infamous Trio – Manny, Diego and Sid are definitely characters whom we can always go always go back for, despite what our ages might be. Although one very smart introduction is the character of Sid’s Granny. She is the most hilariously chilled out and seemingly oblivious old lady, who eventually turns out to be a hero. Her imaginary pet, ‘ Precious Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ is the biggest surprise of the movie, so watch out for that.
Some subtle romance, realistic family issues, lessons about trust and friendship, are some of the elements which help bring the story and the characters very much emotionally closer to the viewers. No to mention, the slapstick comic dialogues, the slightly strong language in the pirate ship, the indigenous action scenes, and the bright and detailed 3Danimation make this movie an absolute delight.
For the fourth installment in The Ice Age series, which a fun-filled roller coaster adventure on shifting indecisive continents, I give Ice Age: Continental Drift, 3.5 out 5 popcorn tubs.
