The movie is a comic masterpiece by Bob Byington who has directed the film along with writing the plot. Jason Schwartzman Jason Francesco Schwartzman was born on 26 June 19 >> Read More... , Olympia Dukakis, Jonathan Togo, Alex Karpovsky and, Tunde Adebimpe perform the lead roles in the movie and display the characters with great excellence.

Plot

The movie acquaints you with the concept of adulting and how it works. Through the film, one may conclude that life is messy and tedious at times, but by the end, all one wants is solitude. The main character i.e., Larry, just goes about life to survive and be able to pay his bills. He turns into a misanthropic person who no one cares about. He seems to have zero friends and no interest in making them too, rather than calling him a crowd pleaser one might call him a social outcast. At times throughout the movie, his behaviour might be termed unfriendly or reclusive, but that's only because he has no idea about the art of socializing; he feels confused and uncomfortable amongst crowds, thereby avoiding them at any given chance. All his life he seems to have grown up into a socially awkward person. The only companion he has throughout his life and even in the movie is his trustworthy French bulldog named Arrow until, one day when he discovers himself being smitten by his lady boss Lupe Torrez. Now that he feels the emotion of love towards another individual other than Arrow he feels mystified as to how to handle his feelings and thinks of ways to deal with them. While surviving at his workplace he often gets distracted by the presence of Lupe who seems to have a magnetic yet subtle effect on him. This newfound love is undoubtedly bound to change Larry’s life, but to know what it all leads to you must give this film a watch.

Star Performance

The movie has exceptionally talented artists who master portraying the seriousness in their characters along with humour and intended puns. The performance of each actor is praise-worthy including the bull-dog name Arrow. Although a few characters seem to have concise roles, each of their presence is impactful to the plot build-up. The film allows actors to feel the deep and unrequited emotions that they must have thought of at some point in their lives but could not express.

Analysis

The film covers the simple and mundane emotions that one feels, there is integration of simplicity in life with tragedy and action too. The film touches on concepts bound to bring change in humans and make them question various concepts in life. Though the movie discusses the mundane and sad reality of adults, it still has its humor intact.

What’s There?

  • The film contains well-written comic scenes with precise comic timing
  • The character development shown from the movie's start to end is incredible.

What’s Not There?

  • There could have been more chances of increasing the plotline.
  • The film gets very slow-paced at times, making the audience lose interest.

Verdict

The story has an exciting espionage conspiracy theme, relating viewers with comedy and slice-of-life genres. It does have a complex story plot, but it is a decent watch for anyone interested in exploring the auditing phase of life.
