“
Vaiko
,” who is jailed in Chennai Puzhal prison for supporting LTTE, writes letters to the District Collectors, Government Secretaries and Forest Officers. In his letter, he stated that the Eucalyptus trees that spoil the moisture in the air and the land should be uprooted. Eucalyptus trees are one of the biggest threats to the water scarcity. Uprooting these trees and planting the trees that are useful to the environment is the only way to save the underground water, stated Vaiko. Eucalyptus belongs to the family of Myrtaceae that grows up to the height of 1500 MM. These trees are brought by the British from Australia. The Eucalyptus tree has the nature of sucking the groundwater and the other nutrients available in the ground. Hence these kinds of trees should be uprooted. As these trees are in the hilly areas like Kodaikanal, it created the water scarcity and also minimized the rain. These details are given by Vaiko from Puzhal. Will the officials take necessary steps to save the groundwater?
