,” who had been sentenced to a year in prison for the treason case turned angry when the verdict was announced. He stated that he had never requested for minimum punishment, as said in the judgment and also asked the judge to give him severe punishment. This shocked everyone, who were on the spot while the judge pronounced the verdict.
During 2009, at a book launch in Raja Annamalai Mandram, Vaiko stated that if the war in Sri Lanka against the LTTE is not put to rest, then India will not be unified. This is the reason for the treason case.
Vaiko had been an MP in Rajya Sabha from 1978 to 1996. He is about to file a nomination, this Saturday for the Rajya Sabha Election, which will take place on 18th July.
