He recently directed the action drama Coolie, which stars Rajinikanth in the lead role.

If this is true, it will be for the first time in more than four decades that two of the greatest actors of Tamil cinema will be working together on a single project. The last time they worked together on a project titled Alauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum, which had released in 1979.

At that time, Kamal Haasan had cemented his position as a credible star in Tamil, as well as Malayalam cinema, while Rajinikanth had just got his breakthrough after a few years of struggle. Since then, Kamal Haasan has focused on balancing content with commerce, while Rajinikanth went on to become of the most commercially viable stars of Indian cinema, with an illustrious legacy of his own.

Meanwhile Lokesh Kanagaraj is already working on multiple projects, amongst which the most anticipated one is Kaithi 2, the sequel to the action thriller Kaithi, which established the Lokesh Cinematic Universe.
