Indian Fishermen Abandon Katchatheevu Festival!
Katchatheevu festival is very popular and it had been conducted every year during March. Along with the Sri Lankan fishers, South Indian fishers will participate in the festival. The Southern fishers planned to grace the occasion on 11th and 12th March with 4199 people in 146 boats. But, due to the latest gunfire by the Sri Lankan Navy, they decided to abandon the festival. On 6th March the Sri Lankan Navy gun fired the Indian fishers and a young fisher named Britso was killed on the spot. Two of the fishers were severely injured and they are getting treatment in the hospital. The fishers are protesting against the government to take necessary steps to save the fishermen, who had been regularly arrested and killed by the Sri Lankan Government. Parrish Sagayaraj said that to protest against the cruel killing of the fisher, the Fishermen Association has decided not to take part in the Katchatheevu fest.
