Following the attack by the Sri Lankan Navy on the Indian Fishermen in the maritime border, the fishermen community started protesting in Rameshwaram and Chennai. Britjo, a 21-year-old Fisher had been venturing fishing with his community men. Without any warning, the Sri Lankan Navy started firing. Britjo died on the spot and a couple of fishers were severely injured and are getting their treatment in the hospitals. But, the Sri Lankan Navy announced that they didn’t attack anyone. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan government agreed to release the Indian fishermen in their prison and have ordered to conduct an inquiry relating to the gunfire held on 6th March. India – Sri Lanka have signed an agreement to release the fishermen in the prison of both the countries. However, there is no detail available regarding the seized boats.
