Plagiarism in the Indian movie industry is not a new inclination, but an age-old, inevitable practice that continues to hinder creativity and originality. While some of the Bollywood flicks are partly ‘inspired’ and accepted as tributes to the western classics, some of them are absolute copy-pastes, and then there are others which left no stone unturned in imitating the plot, posters and guess what? Outfits of the characters as well! *sigh* Presenting you the copy-cats:
Ugli Aur Pagli is a wretched, uncredited recreation of the Korean blockbuster My Sassy Girl. It depicts the dire changes that occur in Kabir’s life after the entrance of a drunk and spunky girl, Kuhu. Hollywood, besides Bollywood too looked east for the movie’s remake and it was evidently better than its Bollywood counterpart.
Dhamaal, belonging to the set of family comedy movies is- surprise, surprise- a blatant remake of the classic, super hit Hollywood entertainer, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The film portrays a gang of 4 good-for-nothing unemployed friends and a crooked cop, played by

who goes in pursuit of some treasure they learn about from a thief. This results in a huge mess, but barrels of laughter for the audience.
Morgan Freeman-Jim Carrey starrer Bruce Almighty is what stirred the creation of God Tussi Great Ho. Though, the film was a duff at the box office. With ridiculous songs in the backdrop and brain-dead performances of the actors, it came out to be such a badly pulled off one. On the other hand, Bruce Almighty's crunchy one-liners and madcap humor do need a watch!
Both ‘The Godfather’ & ‘Sarkar’ are about the downfall of a Don cum messiah, who runs a structured crime syndicate above the law, while still retaining an ethical code within his territory. Both the respective protagonists

are considered to be legends but when you are talking about The Godfather, it's a classic and nothing can top the original. Period.
Mohabbatein turns out to be the most pathetic remake of Dead Poet’s Society with Indian melodrama. The plot is same with a tad bit of change. The Hollywood venture goes on to portray the role of

as a new teacher who stimulates his students to go against archetypal norms of society. In the Indian counterpart, the same story is given a dramatic touch. It reveals three senseless love stories of the students (who look a little older to be school students) that add to the crooning of Shahrukh’s violin for his deceased girlfriend. In short, the movie is nothing but Dead Poet’s Society + Bollywood masala.
The plot of both the movies revolves around two young men who find themselves unable to recall where they parked their Maruti Ertiga car after a night of unruliness. Despite the copied script, ‘Mere Dad Ki Maruti’ too came out to be wildly hilarious. The Punjabi accent, sidesplitting sangeet performance of the protagonist’s sister, and the comic timing is spot on.
Another add-on to the Hollywood rip-offs is Bhatt production’s Murder. However, this time the Hollywood version is itself a remake of its French counterpart. The movie features

starrer depicts the same plot with even more erotic and titillating scenes.
Brothers is the “official remake” of the Hollywood blockbuster Warrior. But if all you wanted to see was some good street fight and not a melodramatic mess, then the blatantly copied scenes and frigging dialogues of the Indian venture of warriors are sure to irk you out of the movie.
Hum Tum is an acknowledged inspiration of the Hollywood romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally. The movie is nothing short of ‘an old wine served in a new bottle.’ However,

and Rani Mukherjee seemed to do justice with the movie as it was a box office hit.
Another one on the list is an uncredited adaptation of the 80s Hollywood Blockbuster Three Men and a Baby. The story revolves around three womanizers who begin encountering oddballs in their life as soon as a cute baby girl shows up on their doorstep, thus making them baffled. The original classic is a sure delight to watch. However, if you are that ardent Bollywood movie masala fan, then Heyy Babyy is there with extra –ys.
