Sekhar Kammula or Kumar Sekhar Kammula is a director by profession in the Indian film industry. He works as a screenwriter and producer as well. He works predominantly in the Telugu film industry. He is married to Sri Vidya Kammula and has two children named Vandana Kammula and VibhavKammula. He completed his graduation in the field of Mechanical Engineering from the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) and M.S. degree in the line of Computer Science from the U.S. After that; he worked for about three years in the IT sector.
he pursued his degree of Master of Fine Arts from the university named Howard University situated in Washington D.C. While his study period in the field of films, he worked in many short films and featured films of U.S. He made his debut as a director into the Telugu film industry with the film named Dollar Dreams that released into the Indian theatres in the year 2000. He directed this film independently.
The film became a big hit and a great success of his career. It made him win the National Film Award for the category of Best First Film of a director. He was also honored with two Filmfare Awards of South plus six state Nandi Awards. His second film as a director was Anand. It was also a box office hit of 2004. He won many awards during his lifetime which include Indira Gandhi Award for the category of Best Debut Film of a Director in the Golden Lotus Awards for Dollar Dreams. Then he won the Nandi Award for Best Director for the 2004 film Anand and 2006 film Godavari. Then he received the Nandi Award for Second Best Feature Film for Anand in 2004, Godavari in 2006, and Happy Days in 2007.
He received the Nandi Award for Best Story in 2011 for the film “Leader.” He also got Filmfare Best Film and Best Director Award for his movie “Happy Days” in 2007. He received the Zee Golden Awards in the category of Best Director in 2017 for the film “Fidaa.”
