Madhav Rao and Subbalakshmi. He has worked predominantly in the Telugu film industry. He has cinematographed more than 50 films in his cinema career. From 1986 to 1988, he worked as an assistant cinematographer in Telugu Feature films.
Then from 1989 to 1993, he worked as the associate cameraman in Telugu feature films. The movie Pacha Thoranam was a breakthrough in his career. Ram Prasad’s father was a makeup man. His father was his inspiration to join the film industry. His mother was a home maker. Ram Prasad spent his childhood in Chennai. He faced lots of struggles in his life. After his higher studies, he joined the Chennai Film Institute to do a Diploma in Cinematography or D.F.T. (Diploma in Film Technology). But due to his passion for photography, he dropped out of college. He then joined as an assistant to the famous director and cinematographer, VSR Swamy.
In the year 1994, he cinematographed the films Pacha Thoranam, Police Alludu and Merupu. He then cinematographed films like Ayyinda Leda, Kaliyugamlo Gandaragolam, Hello I love You and Swaenakka. Ram Prasad is an Indian chief of photography dominatingly working in Telugu film industry. He has done work as a cinematographer for more than 50 movies since he has entered the film business. Ram Prasad referred to the business people as a specialist in picturizing activity scenes; he can hoist such scenes to a different level. Ram Prasad was born on 21 October 1966 to parents Sri C. Madhav Rao, and Smt. Subbalakshmi.
Ram Prasad was born to the family already involved in the film industry. His father Sri C. Madhav Rao was a makeup man in South India who worked for performing artist Krishna for four and a half decades. However, his mother was a homemaker. His father gifted him a camera when he was 19.
Ram Prasad spent his earlier years in Chennai. Already inspired from his father’s profession, as soon as he completed his SSLC, he joined the Film Institute in Chennai to pursue his Diploma of Film Technology in Cinematography. He dropped out of college to work as the assistant of Late VSR Swamy (Famous Cinematographer and Director).
He did work with VSR Swamy from 1986 to 1988, and further as an associate camera operator in Telugu Films from 1989 to 1993. As a Cinematographer, he got his first break in ‘Pacha Thoranam’ and later as a director of photography in many hit films. Some of them are Mirapakay, Legend, Maryada Ramanna, Hanuman Junction, Yevadu, and Athanokkade. In an interview, he said, “I generally had an imaginative bowed of the brain, and I would do pencil draws.”
In spite of the fact that he needed to be an architect, he ended up doing cinematography. Consistently, he gained some new useful knowledge and any work little or huge he attempted he used to win. That confidence and positivity helped him stay refreshed about camera and movies. He moved from Chennai in 1992 and is now an aggregate Hyderabadi.
Ram Prasad received so many awards throughout, but some of them are notable. In 2004, movie name ‘Nenu’ had released. The film was a flop at the box office but received good critical acclaim, mainly for Allari Naresh's performance as Psychotic Lover. Ram Prasad was rewarded with ‘Sangam Academy Award’ for his Best Cinematographer. Year after this, one of the famous movie of his career ‘Athanokkade’ was released.
There were fewer hopes for this movie but it was a big hit at the box office. Here, Ram Prasad has rewarded with ‘A.P. Cinegoers Award’ again for Best Cinematographer. In 2007, movie named ‘Munna’ was released. Prabhas played the role of Munna, and Ileana D’Cruz was opposite to him. For this, Ram Prasad was rewarded with ‘Nandi Award’ here again for Best Cinematographer.
