Ayyapan is well known as a Director. He is also actor in Kannada films, and Tamil serials. He has acted in Kana Kanum Kalangal, Meera and other serials. He plays the role of Mohan in Thendral.

"I play a corrupt police officer in Gharshane. I have done guest appearances in the past, but this is the first time that I will do a full-fledged role," says Ayyappan, who was happy to learn the nuances of acting from the film's director Dayal Padmanabhan. "As a director, I have taught others to act. In this film, I was placed in front of the camera and Dayal gave me acting tips and taught me about certain mannerisms," he says.

Ayyappa comes from a family of well-known actors that includes Ravi Shankar and Sai Kumar. Does this mean that he will now become a full-time actor as well?
"No. Ravi and Sai are popular for their acting, but I am better known as a director. I am passionate about directing and don't want to give it up. Having said that, I will act if I get good roles, like the one in Gharshane, which gave me the opportunity to work with Malashree, who acted in my directorial debut, Veeru," says Ayyappa. About Ayyappa’s acting skills, Dayal says, "Directors can be a good actor and Ayyappa has proved this. He has done a wonderful job in Gharshane."
