Born on 14th April 1927, in Thiruvadhigai, Panruti, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, P A Periyanayaki was a playback singer and an actress. Her mother’s name was Adhilakshmi. She was also a singer. Periyanayaki studied up to the seventh standard in the CSM School at Thiruvallikeni. She left school as she got a chance to work in a Tamil film Uvashiyin Kadhal. She was trained in Carnatic music. She used to perform stage concerts before her career in the Tamil film industry. She has worked as a singer and actress in multiple Tamil movies. Some of them are Urvashayin Kadhal (1940), Uthama Puthiran (1940), En Manaivi (1942), Koondukili (1954), and many more.
