Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram born on 13th April 1930 in the District Thanjavur, Tamilnadu India was a legendary poet and lyricist. His father Arunachalam Pillai is also a poet but focused on Tamil folk genre. Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram’s mother Visalakshi Ammal was a housewife. He was 6 feet tall with a strong physique and smart features. Popularly known as Kalyanasundaram, he had so many names during his era. He is popularly known as Makkal Kavingar, Pattukottaiayr. He got the latter name because of his hometown Pattukottai. Kalyanasundaram never attended a school and was never homeschooled too.
Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram had lived a very basic life and used to do farming in his land and led an agriculturist life. Not only was he a farmer, to earn more money to support his family he used to also do small trade jobs. His love for language Tamil made him go to Pondicherry and learn Tamil there from Bharathidasan when he was young. With the help and teachings of Paavendar Bharathidasan made Kalyanasundaram a great Tamil Poet. He worked as attender for the magazine Kuyil ran by Bharathidasan; his teacher for some time. In 1957, he married Gowrawammal and became father to a son Kumaravelu in 1958.
Even before getting married, Kalyanasundaram got an offer to be a lyricist for two songs for the movie Paditha Penn that released in 1956. Later for the movie Maheswari , starring Gemini Ganesan Born in 1920, Gemini Ganesan, originally known as >> Read More... , he penned five songs and became very popular. Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram life completely changed after the film Kalyana Parisu which was a blockbuster musically. He was not only a lyricist; Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram wanted to be an actor too. He joined the chapter Sakthi Nataka Sabha in 1953 and got training there.
He performed many theatrical plays too simultaneously. Along with acting, he took care of music and songs for the dramas. During his life in the film industry, he became close friends with then popular film villain actor, O.A.K.Thevar and also communist comrade leader Jeevanandam and had been friends with them for several decades. Because of Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram’s tall features, he got an offer to act in the picture Kviyin Kanavu as Raj Guru in 1951.He wrote almost 250 songs in all south Indian languages. In 1959, Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram had a nose surgery. Unfortunately, due to the surgery failure, he died because of a cerebral hemorrhage.
