Bala Kailasam

Bala Kailasam was a producer cum director who worked in the Tamil film and TV industry. He was born on 26th October 1960. In 1983 he graduated from the University of Madras in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Later, he went to Iowa City and joined the University of Iowa and learned Film and Video Production. Bala Kailasam was married to Geetha Kailasam Geetha Kailasam is a producer cum actress working >> Read More... and had two children: a daughter, Vilasini and a son, Vishnu Bala.

In 1987, he made the film The Twice Discriminated. In 1990, he made Marabu Vastu. In 1992, he made Veli, Quality and Our Own Heritage. In 2009, he worked on Writing On Water and Neerundu Nilamundu. In 1993, he produced Raghuvamsam, directed by K Balachander. In 1994, he produced Maramadesam, and in 1995, he made Ramany Vs Ramany. Nayyandi Darbar, Kadhai Alla Nijam and Veettukku Veedu Looty are also his production ventures.

Kailasam was the head of Minbinbangal, a TV production banner of K Balachander. He produced a series of hit Tamil serials along with his wife, Geetha. Kailasam was the creative head of the 24-hours news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai TV, from 2011 to 2013.

He died on 15th August 2014 after contracting pneumonia. He was just 53 when he died.

To honour Bala Kailsam, The Bala Kailasam Memorial Award is being awarded by Cinema Rendezvous Trust to the filmmakers who excel in documentary filmmaking.
