TK Jayaram Iyer was born at Kuttal in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. He is one of the most renowned music directors. His first teacher who taught him violin was his father who was violinist and Sanskrit scholar. He has contributed to multiple Malayalam movies as a successful music director. He served as a teacher in Swati Thirunal Sangeet Akademi, Thiruvananthapuram. He was also head of the music department at the Akashvani Tiruchirappalli Nilayam. Later he became the head of the Carnatic music department of the National Orchestra at the Delhi Aakashvani Nilayam.
He worked at All India Radio as a music producer and later retired as Chief Music Producer at AIR Delhi Centre. He has composed a total of 13 songs. The lyrics from "Kathayitu Sangyansahajare Wa" was a very famous song composed by him. In 1960, he was honoured with 'Sangeetha Kalanidhi' award by the Sangeeta Academy. Later, in 1963 he was awarded the 'Sangeeta Nataka Academy' award by the Government of India for his contributions to music.
