Rashaanth Arwin is an India music composer, singer, and sound mixer who works for the Tamil music industry. He completed his schooling from Vestley Matriculation higher secondary school, Aranthangi. After that, he pursued a degree in sound engineering from Loyola College, Chennai. Born in Chennai, both of his parents are from a music background, and as a result, he started learning music formally at the tender age of nine. After completing his school, he began composing music.
Apart from being a singer, he got trained in playing Veena and Guitar. His father, Kannan worked for the music director duo Shankar-Ganesh as a violinist. His mother Latha is a well-known playback singer who is a professional in singing Ghazals, Tamil, and Hindi tracks. She has also been a leading singer for the live bands of various music directors. After the split of the duo Shankar-Ganesh, his parents, also known by their showbiz name Kannan-Latha shifted to Tiruchi.
They started a music school in 1996 and named it Maar’s Win School of Music. The school has been running for more than two decades now. He worked as a music composer at that school for years. His grandfather, C.S Subburaman was a renowned music director in the music industry until his death. He composed scores 58 movies in just a decade including
Laila Majnu, Devdas, Velaikari, Ratnamala, etc.
He died before the birth of Rashaanth, but he still looks up to him for inspiration. His grandfather’s younger brother Shankar was the other half of the composer duo Ganesh-Shankar for whom Rashaanth’s father played the violin. Other than his grandfather, he got inspired by Ilayaraja and the Mozart of India, A.R. Rahman. In the starting days of his career, he used to play and compose music on borrowed keyboards. He has come a long way, and now he owns a studio. He directed the music of many short films, documentaries, and private albums before success came to him.
Some of the albums he composed include Yedhanu Meete and Thittam- Acham Thavvir. He acquired his big break when he directed music for the blockbuster horror film Yoogan (2015). Some of the famous songs on the album were Yoogan (theme song), Beer Anthem, Ajili Bijli, Yaru Yaradi, and Breakup Party. The album contains both energetic or peppy and soft-toned songs. He is currently living in Tiruchchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Raasanth Arwin wants to become a teacher and teach music.
