Valampuri John was a director, Tamil writer, public speaker, and Rajya Sabha member of India. John was born in Uvari, a small village in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. In his early years, he began his career as a lawyer. In addition to law, he had multiple master's degrees. In 1992, he completed his doctorate in History from Pachaiyappa's College. Furthermore, he was an activist at Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and afterward, he joined the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Additionally, he was connected with the now-dissolved Tamil Maanila Congress, which was established in 1996 by the late G.K. Moopanar.
He has written several books on various domains such as literature, politics, and Siddha medicine. Moreover, he has also edited a Tamil periodical— Thaai— written by the late Cheif Minister, M. G. Ramachandran. In 1988, he has written and directed the film Adhu Antha Kaalam. In 1974 he was elected as a Rajya Sabha member and was re-elected in 1984 for the same position. Later, he also became a member of the Legislative Council. Valampuri John died at the age of 59 in May 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
