Selva was born in the 1990s, is a Tamil film director from India. He is known for his film remakes and directed a string of box office hits in the 1990s. Pachaiyappa's College, Tamil Nadu, was Selva's alma mater. He began his career as an assistant director in an advertising business that produced commercials, documentaries, and short films.

Selva then directed the Sun TV series “Soorya”, which starred M. K. Stalin in the lead role.

Following that, he received another offer from Chozha Creations to helm a TV series named “Neela Mala”. In 1992, Chozha Creation's re-entry into the film world was aided by the popularity of the serial, and he was given his first opportunity to direct Thalaivasal. Despite the failure of ‘Sishya (1997)’ on the box office, Karthik chose to work with Selva again in “Pooveli (1998)”, which was a huge commercial success. Following the popularity of the film, he received other offers, including the chance to work with Karthik on a third film, “Rojavanam (1999)”, a romantic love story set against the backdrop of a home of old people. Selva directed "Naanga (2012)," a film that featured the offspring of well-known actors. Due to its low-key distribution, the picture received mixed reviews and went overlooked. Selva's first work with music director Ilaiyaraaja was "Naadi Thudikkuthadi," which he directed with novices but the film is yet to release.
