Vimala Velu

Vimala Velu is a Singaporean actress, cancer advocate, and data analyst with a strong Tamil background. She is an M.Sc. graduate with a molecular biology degree. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and her master’s at the Royal Holloway University of London. Her life took a drastic turn when she enrolled herself in ‘Miss Vasantham’, a beauty contest, which was hosted by MediaCorp’s Vasantham Channel.

She was crowned ‘Miss Vasantham 2011’, making it the most memorable and cherishable moment of her life. She even hosted a Tamil show named Jaamai, which earned her the award for the best host in Pradhana Vizha 2024, held by Vasantham TV. Following up on the winnings in the beauty pageant, offers started pouring in from Mediacorp, one of Singapore’s prominent media networks. She worked as an actress in various dramas that aired on one of the Mediacorp channels, Vasantham.

Academically, Vimala is highly oriented towards creating awareness and conducting in-depth research on cancer, having lost her uncle to stomach cancer when she was young.

In 2014, she made a bold move by shaving off her head in support of a cancer fund-raising event called Hair for Hope. She attended Miss Vasantham 2014 and passed her crown to the winner with the same hairless look, and she said she could potentially reach more people as she will be on TV. She gained millions of positive comments and support for her cancer campaign. She loves travelling around the world. She is into sports and is particularly fond of the game football.
