Nakkalites Dhanam

Nakkalites Dhanam is an actress and YouTuber based in Tamil Nadu. She was born in Palakkanuthu village near Oddanchathiram, in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Her real name is Dhanalakshmi, and she was brought up in a family of farmers. She is also the first graduate in her family and the first girl to have done double graduation in her village. Although her father abandoned her family for a year, but her mother stood by her and encouraged her to continue her studies.

She completed her schooling in Oddanchathiram and Salem and then moved to Palani, which is a town near Oddanchathiram for higher studies. During this period, her interest in politics developed as her brother was a follower of communism who introduced her to communist ideology and she started reading some intellectual books and street plays. During her college days, she also met Chandran, with whom she got married later and moved to Kolkata. The couple has two sons, the elder one is Mugil, who is a director in the Kollywood industry, while the younger one Akhil, works in a software company.

In Kolkata, Dhanalakshmi used to spend her days watching plays written by great dramatists, including Badal Sarkar. She also got the opportunity to meet several people who shared the same interests in politics and policy. After spending a few years in Kolkata, Dhanalakshmi shifted to Bengaluru along with her husband and stayed there for a short period, where she started performing in street plays. Thereafter, Dhanalakshmi had to move to Madurai due to the transferable nature of her husband’s job. Although Dhanalakshmi was familiar with street plays but her acting skills developed in Madurai as she was offered to play the role of Victoria in Badal Sarkar’s play.

The couple then moved to Coimbatore and co-founded a film club called Konangal, which provided a platform for aspiring small-time filmmakers to show their work. Nakkalites also started the Alapparaigal series, which is a depiction of common life situations peppered with comedy, and her character Dhanam Amma became popular.

Besides, Nakkalites Dhanam has worked in various films. She made her debut in the Kollywood industry with a film called Sivappu Manjal Pachai Click to look into! >> Read More... , which was released in 2019. It was about Rajashekar, a strict traffic police officer who is about to marry the sister of Madhan, an arrogant street racer who cannot forgive Rajashekar for humiliating him in the past.
