Sooraj S Kurup is a Malayalam music director who works in Indian film industry. He composes music predominately for Malayalam films and is well known for his work in Solo. Born in Kottayam Sooraj completed his studies from CMS high school in Nedungadappally. After this, he did graduation from CMS College of his hometown itself studying BA triple main in communicative English, literature, and journalism. For further studies, he took admission in Music lounge school of audio technology in audio engineering. During his school days Sooraj used to participate in different music competitions at school youth festival and was skilled in mridangam, but his interest was in filmmaking. He tells in an interview that his mother used to take him and his younger brother Dheeraj in school youth festivals.

He started making music’s too but only for himself. Also while pursuing an undergraduate degree from CMS College he used to make mini films and scored music for the same as well. He further tells some of the crucial moments in his life when he had to choose between music and studies. To continue both, he convinced his parents to study audio engineering from Stephen Devassy’s institution and moved to Chennai. Sooraj made a short film on substance abuse which had been screened at many academic institutions during his graduation. He also assisted director KB Venu in the august club. After moving to Chennai he worked in ads, recording sessions and other small ventures like background scoring, etc. Later he resoluted to hurl into pictures and started his career as a film composer and scorer in 2016 through valleem thetti pulleem theetti.

The film was not so well received, but the tracks were appreciated. In the same year, kochavva Paulo ayyapa Coelho was also released along with Ann Maria kalippilaanu containing his music. In 2017 he came up with four releases alamara, sakhavu, solo and crossroad among which he had been highly appreciated for solo. He composed the duet seethe kalyanam for the movie which is an anthology of four stories, consisting of songs by eleven composers among which Sooraj prepared the song for story “world of Rudra”. He also sang and did the background scoring. The recognition that he received after working in the film of one of the exquisite directors in the industry made him a celebrity in the cinema world. In 2018 he composed music for the movie Luca.

Anil Johnson. One word that is enough to describe this man: Maestro! He is a multitalented, multifaceted artist who has been entertaining audience for over a decade now. He has primarily worked for Malayalam cinema. He was born and raised in Cochin in Kerala. He has a list of specialties under his belt! Some of them are: composer, a lyricist, music director, song writer, keyboard programmer and arranger, producer and sound designer, to name a few. The list is endless. Just like his talents! He can proudly boast of having composed the music for jingles for advertisements, programmed music for several major composers and musicians and also worked on films to provide background scores. According to him, it’s an art to detect the mood of a movie, and then use music to enhance that feeling and bring it out, through sounds, lyrics, and beats. It is what makes him tick. His zest for music isn’t a recent occurrence. He’s been an ardent music fan since childhood, indulging himself in music classes- ranging from dance music, to world music and to classical music as well. The whole spectrum! His journey to becoming a music maestro started at the mere age of 16, where he played the piano in churches. He went to St. John D Britto Fort Cochin as a child and then switched over to FACT School Udyogamandal. He later graduated from the Mahatma Gandhi University, majoring in Music Production. In the year 2010, he released his first album Chulli- A Malayalam album, where he experimented with different songs and styles. He would later go on to collaborate and produce music with Indian music legend Bombay Ravi, AKA Ravi Shanker Sharma! He is quite zealous for music. In fact, he was once asked in an interview why he was so passionate and enthusiastic about music. His reply was short and sweet: “We all carry music in ourselves. That is why it’s called a heart beat.” Some of the movies he’s provided background scores for are 3 Dots, Memories, Dhrishyam, Life of Josutty, and his latest flick- Olapeepi. All of these have been box office hits, and he’s musical contributions in all have earned him stern respect from his peers, critics, and fans alike. But perhaps his crowning achievement is the fact that he worked in tandem with Tarsem Singh as a music arranger on the famous Hollywood TV show, ABC’s Lost; a show broadcast world-wide! He is currently living in his hometown in Kerala and insists that he doesn’t want to stop yet.
