S. P. Venkatesh

S.P. Venkatesh is popular in the Malayalam film industry as a music director and a composer. He was considered to be one of the best music directors in the early and mid-90’s. He composed music for various blockbuster hits of Mohanlal’s movies. The well-known music director has his roots in Kochi, Kerala. His father, Pazhani is a skilled mandolin player. As a young boy, he was interested in playing Guitar, Banjo, and Mandolin.

All his songs in this movie were big hits. There was no looking back for him after this, as he produced numerous musical album hits during the 90’s. The composer was most active during this period. Venkatesh is successful in emotionally enhancing scenes in the films through his background music.

It was for Mohanlal’s film, Deshadanakkili Karayarilla that he created his first background music. He went on to make background scores for other films like Kilukkam, Spadikam, Dhruvam, Indrajaalam, No. 20 Madras Mail and Mantrikam. He received the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Music Director in the year 1993, for his work in Paitrukam, and Janam. Venkatesh has created background music for the movies which had other composers for the songs.

Devasuram, and Tenmavin Kombattu are the movies in which he composed only the film scores. He has also given music to some Bengali films. Acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and violin orchestra are used extensively in his song compositions. He was successful in providing a unique identity to all his creations. Venkatesh also helped other music directors in handling orchestration.
