Sukumari

Sukumari was a legendary South Indian actress who was active in the industry for more than 50 years. She has acted in close to 3000 movies and several serials. Sukumari was facilitated with Padma Shri for her great contributions. She was married to late Dr.Bhim Singh and they have a son named Suresh. Suresh has also acted in a few films and is a doctor by profession. Sukumari passed away in the year 2013. Her death was a huge loss to the industry.

 

Sukumari was born in the year 1940 as the daughter of Madavan Nair and Satyabama Amma at Tamil Nadu. She started her dance training at a very young age and travelled all over India with her dance shows. Her debut movie was Oru Irav in Tamil. The journey which started with 1960 continued till 2013. She has donned a variety of roles over the years. Her acting career was spread across many languages like Malayalam, Simhala, Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. She has been an integral part of many stage programs, humorous skits, chat shows and reality shows. Sukumari had also conducted many independent music concerts. She has donned significant roles in a variety of Malayalam and Tamil television serials. Her powerful character in the serial Swarnamayooram is unforgettable. Swarnamayooram is a mega serial which was telecasted on Asianet television channel. Swarnamayooram mainly focused on the story of two ladies Seetalakshmi and Krishnaveni and their relationship with each other. Krishnaveni and Seetalakshmi shared a very close friendship. The love, affection and care they had for each other been regarded as much more than that of real sisters. As per the story line, a very theatrical incident in their lives brought about a huge alteration in their strong bond. Sukumari has won numerous awards for stellaer performances and will always remain alive in the heart of her loving fans.
