John Brittas was born on 24 October in 1966 in Kannur. He is a journalist, ex-business head of Asianet Communications, and a managing director of Kairali TV. He did his schooling from his hometown school. Further, he attended Don Bosco High School in Thrissur for his higher studies. Then, he studied in SS College at Payyannur. He completed his graduation from Payyanur College, with Political Science as his stream. Later, he did his Masters in Political Science from Varma College in Thrissur. He topped in both exams. Then, he moved away from his hometown and transferred to Delhi. Later, he enrolled in Jawaharlal Nehru University, and then he did his PhD.
John had keen interest in writing. He actively participated in his college’s extracurricular activities. He wanted to be a journalist, so he applied for a job as a sub-editor in a journal of the Communist Party of India, Deshabhimani. After shifting to Delhi for his higher dreams, the editor’s head moved him to work with Prabhakara Varma. Before joining his job as an editor, he was instructed to guard the Kerala’s CPIM Chief Minister to Punjab. The CM had a discussion in Punjab with a radical group called the Akalis who were demanding for a nuclear state. He received applause from the people of Delhi. After arriving in Delhi, he saw the radicalism in Delhi. John witnessed the transformations that took place that affected the future of the country.
In 2000, the Communist Party of India launched Kairali TV. It developed under the Malayalam Communications Ltd. By that time, John became the popular face on TV. Brittas was the first choice for taking the charge of the Delhi Bureau as the Associate Director. Seeing John’s achievements, many other journals started shifting to visual media. After becoming a known face in the print area, he decided to participate in electronic media. He promoted to the post of managing director after his consistent work for three years. Then, he transferred to Kerala.
John resigned from the Malayalam Communications Ltd. after completion of his eleven year bond. On 2 May, 2011, he became the Chief Executive Officer of Asianet Communications Ltd. in 2013; MCL offered him to the MD of their new section. In 2014, he acted in Velli Velichathil.
Coming to his awards, he was the youngest member who got the Central Hall Pass of the Parliament. From 1991 to 1999, he had been a reporter in the general elections. He recorded the elections in Nepal. During the Iraq war, he was the first journal to cover the news from India to Baghdad. He wrote in many newspapers.
He received an award from the Goenka Foundation for the Journalism Educational Award for his new research known as The Impact of Globalization for Print Media.
