Karthik Jogesh is an Indian Film editor who is known for his work ethics in the Tamil film industry. His first film was Mani Ratnan’s ‘ Kadal Click to look into! >> Read More... ,’ where he worked as an assistant under Sreekar Prasad. Since then, he has edited films like Biju Kumar’s ‘ Perariyathavar Click to look into! >> Read More... ,’ ‘ Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal Click to look into! >> Read More... ,’ and ‘ Kaadu Pookkunna Neram Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ and Shyamaprasad’s Nivin Pauly-Trisha-starrer ‘ Hey Jude Click to look into! >> Read More... .’
His latest film is ‘ Airaa Click to look into! >> Read More... .’ a Tamil horror film about a journalist that is haunted by a vengeful spirit when she visits her ailing grandmother. Karthik Jogesh finished his graduation in Visual Communication and Journalism from Mar Ivanios College. He then moved to Chennai to study cinema. Jogesh was a movie buff since childhood, and he fondly remembers memories of Ambalakkara Global Films, a production house run by his family.
His parents were always supportive of his career and even helped him financially in his first few ventures. He learned editing at LV Prasad and fell in love with this profession. He believes that editing is similar to building blocks and his job is to give the scattered pieces a perfect shape. His first mentor was Ranjith Sankaran, who taught him about the aesthetics of cinema and the rhythm of editing.
The budding editor practiced under the famous Sreekar Prasad, who taught him how editing must blend with the narrative perfectly. Keeping his mentors’ lessons in his mind, Karthik Jogesh decided to begin working independently. Karthik is credited with using interesting tools in his recent horror film ‘Airaa.’ He says that he has given a new turn to the genre and added unusual but acting effects like the butterfly tool.
He believes that editors being the first audience of the film, they must understand the mood of the movie and attempt to make it more engaging without interrupting the flow. He also sternly feels that more than credits, it is the contribution to the film that matters more. For all the non-Tamil speakers, the good news is that Karthik Jogesh plans to work in different languages next!
