P.A. Thomas was the "Jack of all trades.” He was an Indian film director, producer, scriptwriter, theatre artist, and actor in Malayalam movies. He was a fine director and directed over 15 films and produced around 11 movies during the 60s and 70s. His films were concerned with the contemporary social issues of those times. He has also acted in multiple Malayalam films. He was born on March 22, 1922, at Njarakkal, Kerala, to Abraham and Mariamma Puthanangadi.
He was interested in sports as much as he was in the theatre. After he pursued intermediate, he joined a professional drama troupe. Later, he started his professional drama troupe Kerala Kala Samithi and acted in various dramas all around India. He started his career as a Malayalam actor when he was offered a role in the 1950s Prasanna. The very next year, he played the lead role in Vanamala, which was directed by Dr. G Vishwanathan.
He played roles both as a hero and as a villain for various movies which helped him in showcasing his talent as an actor. Later in his life, he entered the industry as a director with ‘Oraal Koodi Kallanayi’ and directed many successful Malayalam films.
The several films he directed and produced were Oraal Koodi Kallanaayi, Kudumbini, Thomasleeha, Kallippennu, Postman, Bhoomiyile Malakha, Madatharvi, and many more. After granting success in the Malayalam film industry, he stepped to the Tamil cinema and made his debut with “ Thalaivan Click to look into! >> Read More... ”, starring MG Ramachandran as the lead character. His movie was a hit, and he was granted a focal place in the industry. He went on and opened the Thomas Studio in Madras (now, Chennai).
