Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam was one of the renowned Indian directors, screenplay writer, and producer. He was born on the 20th of April in the year 1904. His place of birth is Papanasam, Madras Presidency. Krishnaswami was born to his parents Krishnaswami Iyer and Bhamadevi. He is known for his notable works and contributions to the Tamil film industry and also considered to play a vital role in the establishment of the Tamil film industry. He was one of the filmmakers who used films as a medium to bring out reforms against the social evils that existed during the British Era. He was one of those who challenged religious orthodoxy and fought against evil societal norms. Subrahmanyam believed in creating films that also had a cultural association and has a purpose imbibed in them.
He is also the founding member of associations like the "South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce,” the "Nadaswaram Artists Association," and "South Indian Film Artistes Association, the Film Institute." Some of his notable works are Pavalakkodi in 1934, Naveena Sarangadhara in 1936, Geetha Gandhi in 1949, Kowsalya Parinayam in 1937, Mr. Ammanchiin 1937, and many more. He tied his knot with Meenakshi and later with S. D.Subbulakshmi.He has children naming Neelayadakshi, Lalitha, Bama, S. V. Ramanan, Balakrishnan, S. Krishnaswamy, Padma Subrahmanyam, Shan Chandrasekhar, and Abaswaram' S.Subramanyam, however, died on the 7th of April at the age of sixty-six. It was a massive loss for the Tamil film industry, as it lost one of its precious gems.
