Suresh Jayaram was born in 1965, in Bangalore. He is an artist, art historian, arts administrator, and curator. He is practicing art, urban mapping, archiving, curation, and arts education. In the years 2005–2007, he became the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat in Bangalore, where he taught art history before retiring to devote himself completely to 1 Shanthiroad. In 1990, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, in Bangalore. In 1992, he received his Master of Fine Arts from M.S. University (Maharaja Sayajirao University), Baroda (Vadodara). Suresh's main work has been on research and organizing exhibitions.
He worked on a collaborative project called the Sethusamudram Project in 2010, which involved India and Sri Lanka. During the years 2010–2011, he conducted research and created documentation on Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel, who was a German botanist and urban planner known for designing notable gardens in Bengaluru, including Lal Bagh. Suresh also started the Bangalore Mapping Project, which included the Krumbiegel Project. Furthermore, he curated the 2nd Colombo Art Biennale in 2012.
In 2015, Jayaram worked as a mentor for artists at Art1st in Mumbai, and in 2017, he took part in a research program called Pro Helvetia Residency in Zurich. He collected and edited a cookbook called The Shanthiroad Cookbook. Jayaram also collaborated on an exhibition called Japan + India: From There And Here—Alli-Illi—Achi-Kochi, which involved the artist-in-residence program Paradise Air in Tokyo and 1Shanthiroad. Currently, Jayaram lives and works in Bengaluru.
