Nagappa Veeraswamy was an Indian film producer and distributor who produced his movies under the production house Eshwari Productions. He is considered as, one of the legends of Kannada cinema as he introduced many actors and also played a big role in producing some of the most watched films in the Sandalwood history. He had produced 17 Kannada films and one film in each, Hindi and Tamil. NagappaVeeraswamy was born on the 17th of April, 1932 to Nagappa and Kamakshamma who were Tamil speaking Mudaliars. He was born in Otteri, in the North Arcot district of Madras Presidency, which was then ruled by British. He began his foray into cinema in the early 1950’s where he worked as a mere attendant with Dreamland Pictures Corporation. In 1955 he decided to enter into film distribution under the banner of Udaya Pictures with his friend Gangappa.
This eventually led to the foundation of his own production house Eshwari Productions in the year 1962. “Kula Gourava” a Kannada movie starring Rajkumar was the first movie produced by Eshwari Productions in the year 1971. The movie was directed by PeketiSivaram. The film was very successful and swept away five awards at the Karnataka State Film Awards. His son Ravichandran was a child actor in this movie. The subsequent film produced by him acted as the kickstart to establish his company in Kannada cinema, and it was titled “Naagarahaavu” directed by Puttanna Kanagal Puttanna Kanagal was known as Chitra Brahma (God o >> Read More... . The movie was based on T.R. Subbarao's novels, and this film had Vishnuvardhan, K.S Ashwath, Aarathi, and Shuba as leads. It was the first Kannada movie to run 100 days in 3 centers and was lauded by both critics and the viewers as one of the best Kannada movies. It received awards in both Filmfare Awards South 1973 and also Karnataka State Film Awards in 1972-73. The movie had its remake in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu.
In 1983 Eshwari Productions produced the megahit film “ Chakravyuha Click to look into! >> Read More... ” which was directed by V.Somashekar. This film stars Ambareesh and Ambika in the lead roles, and this movie also provided the platform for Mukhyamantri Chandru into the industry. The film was welcomed by the audience with a lot of positive reviews and shot the actor Ambareesh into fame, and he was given the title of “Rebel Star” for reprising the angry young man role. The movie was such a huge success that it caught the eye of the other industries as well, and it was remade in Hindi as “Inquilaab” starring the famous Amitabh Bachchan Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942 in A >> Read More... , and in Telugu as “Mukhyamantri” starring Sridevi.
He produced just one Tamil movie titled “Padikkadavan” in the year 1985, and this film was also a huge success. It starred the Superstar Rajinikanth and was considered as his biggest hit in the 80’s. N Veeraswamy died on August 23rd, 1992. He left a mark on Kannada cinema and is proclaimed as a legend of the industry. His son Ravichandran did the audio launch of his movie “Crazy Star” on his father’s birth anniversary. The event was a tribute to his father and had been attended by some of the veterans of the industry like the famous director and writer S.Siddalingaiah, veteran director SK Bhagwan, director KSL Swamee, film actress Dr.Jayamala and BK Gangappa. They all showed their appreciation towards his contributions to the Kannada film industry and called him as one of the legends.
