Rao is a multi-talented Indian radio jockey, television anchor, actor, singer and master of ceremonies, who is popularly known as Rapid Rashmi because of her proficiency at speaking merged with her quick wit that always arm her with something funny and intellectual to say at the spur of the moment.

She aspired to become a lawyer, majorly due to her terrific vocational skills but ended up beginning her career as a temporary compere on Udaya TV and E TV, simultaneously working as a marketing consultant at the Standard Chartered Bank.

She got her break in 2007 when Big FM hired her for its 92.7 channel as the host of the Rapid Adda (formerly known as Broadcast Bandi), an on-the-wheel, program aired from 2 to 5 p.m.

That covered daily events, hangout places, Bollywood gossip and youth interactions in Bangalore. Rashmi kept the listeners tuned in with her scintillating presentation of the content and amusing one-on-one conversations with the callers.

She soon gathered a huge fan following, which once went to the extent of a stockbroker stalking her all the way to her radio station and proposing her for marriage. The high ratings of her program led Big FM to shift it to an earlier time slot of 11 a.m. To 2 p.m. As ‘Retro Sawaari,’ thereby gathering a larger crowd of audience.

For her brilliant hosting, Rashmi was felicitated with the Media Award and the Aryabhatta Award for best radio jockey in 2016 while Retro Sawaari bagged the silver prize at the Indian Radio Forum for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017. She was also the first RJ in Bangalore to be selected as the mascot for the 2013 Pinkathon, India’s biggest women’s marathon aimed at spreading awareness about female health and hygiene.

Rashmi trained professionally for nearly two decades under the classical singer Parameshwar Hegde, honing her skills in Hindustani music.
