Acted in most of the Kannada films, Thoogudeepa Srinivas is an actor who had his original name as Mysore Srinivas. He always portrayed the darker side of any role and was well known for the same. Renowned actor Darshan Thoogudeep is his son. He was born in 1943 and died in 1995. He was the fourth child of Muniswami and Parvathamma. Under some tragic circumstance, he lost his parents at a young age. Since his early age days, he was inclined towards cinema and theater. He was quite active in participating in all these events. It was then he was noticed by theater artist M P Shankar, who then cast him in Kannada films. Due to this offer, he had to give a halt to his on-going Bachelor’s course. His debut was in 1966 with the film ‘Thoogudeepa’. With this, he was given a new identity as Thoogudeepa Srinivas.

His acting in ‘Mayor Muthanna’ was superb, and ‘Bangaarada Panjara’ showcased his flawless talent. ‘Gandhada Gudi’ also had his wonderful pieces of his talent. He appeared in many hit films as a villain with ‘Dr.Rajkumar’ as the lead and his partner in crime. In 1984’s ‘Ramapurada Ravana’ had him in the lead role which almost changed his career direction.

Talking about his personal life, he married Meena in Ponnampet. His child Dinakar Thoogudeepa is a well-known director. He was suffering from a kidney ailment which doomed him down to death at the age of just fifty-two. Though he was supported by his wife as she donated her kidney to him, still he succumbed to heart attack.

He was born in the era of British with the name as Mysore Srinivas. He adopted Thoogudeepa Srinivas as his screen name. He usually played negative roles in the movies he acted in and were mostly remembered for that. Srinivas has been interested and fond of theater, acting and doing stage shows from his school time itself. During one of his performances as director, M P Shankar was impressed by him and gave him a chance to be a part of many Kannada films. This break was fruitful for Thoogudeepa, and he left his education for pursuing his film career.

Srinivas debuted in the Kannada film industry by featuring in a movie, ‘Thoogudeepa’. It was in 1966 that he was named Thoogudeepa because of the great success of his film. In his career, he has done some extremely famous films like Mayor Muthanna, Kalla Kulla, Sahasa Simha, etc. Srinivas had also played a villain in many movies along with Dr.Rajkumar. He was a critically acclaimed actor and received appreciation for his work throughout in his lifetime. His first full-length role was in the year 1984 for the movie Ramapurada Ravana.

Thoogudeepa was his parent’s fourth child in 8 children. His father's name was Muniswami, and his mother's name was Parvathamma. His parents died when he was very young. He got married on 15 November 1973 to Meena in Ponnampet, Kodagu. The couple has three children together out of which One of their sons, Darshan Thoogudeepa is a famous Kannada actor. Their other son, Dinakar Thoogudeepa is a renowned director in Kannada film industry.

Srinivas was a diabetes patient, and he also had Kidney problems. His wife, Meena donated him her kidney. After suffering continuously, he died suddenly of a massive heart attack on 16 October 1995 at the age of 52.

Thoogudeepa debuted by the movie same as his name, Thoogudeepa. It got so famous that he adopted this as his screen name. In the year 1991, he played the role of Shyam in the movie ‘Gandu Sidigundu’. In 1983, ‘Bhakta Prahalad’ was a hit at the box office in which Srinivas acted brilliantly. By playing the role of Bhaskar Rao in the movie ‘ Auto Raja’ in 1980, he won everyone's hearts.

The next project that he undertook provided him with much more opportunities. “Hawas” was a big hit and helped Tarun to reach heights. Another major film that he did that came to be appreciated by all was “Jab We Met” which was released in the year 2007. Up until then, he did certain minor films; that didn’t present with any challenge to him. The actor is immensely skilled, able to take up on any varied character as a challenge and win the challenge with such alarming talent and efficiency. The actor has always made sure to give it his best at all times.
