Varun Khandelwal, who can currently be seen as IPS Sandhya Rathi's brother in famous serial Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus is a very energetic actor. He belongs to Lucknow, but moved to Mumbai to study tour and travel. He always wanted to become an actor. He got his first break in Balaji's famous daily serial Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki. But prior to that he worked with UTV as a casting director. He handled casting of many serials and had tested , and many other actors when they were new to the industry.

Varun Khandelwal has played a variety of roles in many serials. He has also made an episodic appearance in horror show - Darr Ki Sachi Tasveer which aired on Zee TV. In this show he enacted a sculptor, who sculpts idols with lot of affection, but one of his idols becomes ghost and then he kills his creation to save the world. In this role, he was dressed as a simple man with stubble. In another serial Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki, he played the role of a cheating husband. But he got his fame after portraying Deepu in popular show Jyoti. In serial Jyoti, he played the younger brother character of a poor self-dependent girl Jyoti. Whereas in Diya Aur Baati he is playing a protective and caring brother. He has also played a grey shade character in the serial . In real life Varun Khandelwal is a very adventurous person. He loves riding and travelling. He had ridden a bullet from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar and he wants to travel the whole world. In his free time, he likes to watch movies.
