Manish Chauhan

Dancing is a womanly profession, we have heard many Indian parents say it several times. The life of Manish Chauhan from Mumbai took a great twist.

He comes from a low-income community. Manish Chauhan’s father drives a taxi. Like other children, in the early stages of his life, he was also shy to choose dance as a profession. He faced many hurdles and struggled to become a ballet dancer.

He dropped out of formal education in his early life to pursue ballet dancing. Today, he is a professional ballet dancer, having attended some of the most prestigious dance schools in the world. In 2015, Manish Chauhan, joined the Danceworx Academy of Performing Arts in Mumbai.

It was at that time that the Danceworx Academy started giving professional classical ballet lessons. He was taught by Yehuda Ma’or, an internationally renowned ballet master who has trained with legends such as Natalia Makarova and Rudolf Nureyev and who was in India for a three-month stint.

Ma’or  says Manish Chauhan had “ballet body”, certain characteristics of muscle and bone alignment. Manish Chauhan is also the subject of a Netflix film released in February 2020, Yeh Ballet.

Manish Chauhan’s role in the movie is of Nishu who drops out of school and starts learning ballet. He is making his acting debuts in the film with this being the first role of his entire life.
