Romeo Fernandes is an Indian professional footballer whose primary position is a winger and plays for National capital based ISL outfit Delhi Dynamos. At the age of 17, Dempo youth team scout Joaquim Crasto scouted him and signed him in for the youth team.
Hailing from Assolna, Goa, Romeo played for the club’s U-18, U-19, and U-20 teams. In 2010, Dempo loaned him out to Margao SC for the Goa Second Division. His performance helped the club get promoted to Goa Professional League in 2011. At the age of 17, Dempo youth team scout Joaquim Crasto scouted him and signed him in for the youth team; he remained in the club for five years during which he appeared in 145 fixtures and scored 23 goals. Hailing from Assolna, Goa, Romeo played for the club’s U-18, U-19, and U-20 teams. In 2010, Dempo loaned him out to Margao SC for the Goa Second Division.
His performance helped the club get promoted to Goa Professional League in 2011. That year he returned to Dempo and made his senior debut in the 2011-12 I-League season. For the 2012 U-20 I-League, he appeared for eight matches for the club where he scored seven goals. His first I-League assist was for Joaquim Abranches in the 40th-minute goal against Mohun Bagan.
After impressing everyone with his performance, Fernandes was called up to U 23 squad of India for 2013 AFC U22 Qualifiers in Oman. His debut match was against UAE U 22 as a substitution at the 49th minute for Shaiju Mon where he would score the equalizer that drew the game to 1-1. His second goal for the tournament was against Turkmenistan where India won 4-1.
For the 2014 ISL season, the talented Winger he played on loan for Goa FC where he appeared in 17 games and scored 11 goals. Romeo's first target for the club was in a match against Pune City FC where the winger replaced an injured Robert Pires. In December 2014, he scored his 2nd and the league's 100th goal against NorthEast United FC. Fernandes's impressive performance garnered responses from the club's coach Zico and attention of Brazilian top-notch club Altetico Paranaense.
For 2014-15 Federation cup, he represented Dempo and showcased exceptional gameplay. In 2015, Atletico Paranaense approached Dempo with an offer for Romeo which the winger signed. Though he could only play one game for the club, he claims he learned so much at the training. After he returned to India, Fernandes joined Goa FC and appeared in 12 matches and scored three goals for them.
In 2017, he was on loan to East Bengal FC where he played 19 fixtures and hit the net three times. Later that year, Romeo left Goa and joined Delhi Dynamos for the ISL season. Currently, he is training hard for the upcoming edition of ISL and to get noticed by Stephan Constantine again.
