Usha Uthup was born on 7 November 1947 in a Tamil Brahmin family in Mumbai. She did her education from St.Agnes High School, Mumbai and she has sung in 15 Indian Languages and Various Foreign Languages. Her next door neighbours daughter Jamila, inspired her to learn Hindi which later helped her to create a brand of Indian Pop in 70s.
She explored Indian music to new height by singing the songs in her own style which later became Usha Uthup style. Started her career by singing in night club in Kolkata, Usha became the first Indian Pop singer. Seeing her performance in a five star hotel

offered her to sing in films.
In 1968, Usha Uthup sang English Pop song and interviewed by BBC Radio London. Uthup sang several song for music director R.D.Burman and Bappi Lahiri.
Some of famous songs sang by Usha Uthup are Hari Om Hari (Pyaara Dushman), Shaan se (Shaan), Ek Do Cha Cha Cha (Shalimar), Koi Yha Aha Nache Nache (

) and Darling (Saat Khoon Maaf).
Usha Uthup has received several awards like Padma Shri, Best Female Play Back Singer for song Darling, 4 Kalakar awards in the year (1999, 2002, 2004, 2013) respectively. She is married to Jani Chacko Uthup.The couple has two children's,daughter Angeli and son sunny.
