He was trained by his father and uncle at a very young age and eventually made a television and radio appearance with his cousins and uncle.

Rafaqat started doing solo performances in several shows in India and other countries like Australia, Canada, Middle East, UK, USA, and other European countries. His tour in the USA in 2009 was the most successful tour that was ever made by a Pakistani artist, where he performed in 16 states in just two months. Rafaqat was the first Pakistani artist to perform at the Oslo Opera House in Norway. He was joined by the Bollywood’s Brass Band, Jasvant Singh, and Nafees Irfan.

The event was graced by Queen Sonja of Norway. He also performed classical songs at the opening ceremony of the festival, held at the Rudd House in Oslo. His works were featured in Rishpal Singh Rekhi’s album entitled ‘The Project’ and have also crooned song with English singer-songwriter, Peter Gabriel. Rafaqat is also a popular playback singer and has sung songs in films like Silence Please… The Dressing Room (2004), Krrish (2006), Dhokha (2007), and Younistaan (2014).

He bagged the Mirchi Music Awards for Song Representing Sufi Tradition at the Mirchi Music Awards. Aside from singing, Rafaqat can play different types of musical instruments including the tabla, harmonium, dholak, etc. He was also honored by the Lahore Press Club and grants him a lifetime membership to the club.

Some of the songs that made him popular include Main Haun Aasman, Maula Meray Maula, Allah Tera Shukria, Chand Sa Chehra, Duma dum, Tere Ishq Nachaya, Dewana Ban Gaya, and much more.
