Pandharinath was a classical musician. He was born on the 16th of February 1930, in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. His full name was Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure. He was born and brought up in the town of Pandharpur in Maharashtra. As a young kid, he started learning music under the guidance of Pandit Krishanrao Kolhapure, a Veena player and vocalist. Krishanrao was the partner in the Balwant Natak Academy with Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar. He also got trained famous Khansaheb Ata Husein and Pandit Madhusudan Joshi from the Agra Gharana. He gave his first performance at the tender age of 15 years. He also performed at Baroda’s All India Music Conference in1941. There a famous artist at the darbar – Khansaheb Faiyaz Khansaab blessed him. He gained knowledge of music from Prof. B.R. Deodharji and Pandit Kumar Gandharva. He was not just a versatile singer, but also a beautiful author and has written three books. The first one was titled “Gan Yogi Shiv Putra," which was dedicated to the entire life of his guru Pandit Kumar Gandharva. “Shubh Suranche Bol Rudra Veeneche” was the title of his second book. It was based on the experience of his own life. The last book was an inspiration by the renowned creator of Khyal Gayki Niyamat Khan and dedicated to him. This book includes many of Niyamat Khan’s ‘Bandish’ sung by Panditji. Srikant Dokrikar and Dr. Satyashil Deshpande accompanied him. His father passed him a more than 100 years old Veena, which belonged to Khansahib Murad Khan. Pandit Ji founded the trust Veena Vardayani in 2000. Through which he spread the knowledge of music to many students. He was also a member of the Samvad Foundation and the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Pandit Pandharinath has performed at many renowned locations in Ujjain, Delhi, United States, Pune, and many more. He was also a great mentor to his disciples like
. He breathed his last on 15 August 2015. He died due to a heart attack. He has three daughters named Shivangi, married
, Tejaswini, married
and Padmini, married
and his grandchildren are Priyanka,
and Siddhant. Panditji’s grand-daughter, Shraddha Kapoor was very attached to him. Meghnath Kolhapure and Dinkar Kolhapure are his brothers. His father Krishna Rao used to run a drama academy with Dina Nath Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar’s father.
