Jaswinder Singh Dhami, is an Indian music artist, born in Jalandhar, Punjab on 1st March 1986. He is popular by his stage name, Jaz Dhami. His popularity rose because of his music in the ‘Folkhop’ genre. He was born in Jalandhar, Punjab and raised in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He is the son of the popular Bhangra singer, Viccar Dhami from the most famous Bhangra band, ‘Sangam’. His musical abilities were recognized at the age of 9 by his father and he went on to get classical training in Birmingham, England. Thus, his music journey began at the age of 9.
He entered the mainstream musical industry in 2008 when he showcased his first album, ‘Groundshaker 2’ featuring Aman Hayer, who is also an England-based music artist. Apart from singing, he is a music composer and a guitarist. From then, he has been giving superhit songs and albums in Punjabi, Hindi, and English. He then released his second album JD in 2009 followed by Jakara in 2012, whose music was given by Gurmeet Singh.
Amidst this, he has been giving hit singles Roj Miliye, Theke Wali, Tera Mera, Bari Der, Tere Naal, Sardari, High Heels, Meh Punjabi Boli Ah, Zulfa, Pasina, Beparwaiyan, Sithneyan, Sitarey, Munda Like Me and others, from the years 2008 to 2016. In this span, he has worked with famous music artists like Honey Singh, Dr. Zeus, ‘Sneakbo’ and ‘Ikka’ and others. Some of his most famous songs include ‘High Heels’, where he appeared along with Honey Singh, and this song went on to be very popular all over the country. Later, it was adopted in the movie ‘Ki And Ka’ featuring Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in it.
He was also the part of the song ‘God only knows’ which was also a great hit. It included famous music artists like Pharrell Williams, Sam Smith, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Chris Martin and others. Jaz Dhami is involved in a decent amount of community work; he encourages Asians to pursue their football dreams. He is showed in the “Football Needs” campaign which helps people to get ahead with football.
His music and albums have won him several awards like Best newcomer from the UK Asian Music Awards in 2009 and Best Desi Act in 2011 by the same. He was awarded the best song of 2012 by Punjab Television Awards, Best lyrics in 2013 by Brit Asia TV Music Awards and Best Song by the same in 2014.
He was seen last in 2016, in the song which he composed for the movie ‘Sanam Re’ called ‘Party Puri Talli Hai’ which showcased Divya Ghosla Kumar, Pulkit Samrat, and Yami Gautam. He made his Bollywood debut with this song. He is a lover of Bollywood music and says, “It has always been on top of my list to make entry into Bollywood and work in Bollywood.”
