A true Virgo at heart, Prachi Desai was born at Surat, Gujarat, on the 12th of September, 1988 in a traditional Anavil family. She studied from St.Joseph’s Convent, Panchgani and presently resides in Mumbai with her mother and two siblings. Acting flowed in the family as her father and uncle were active participants in Gujarati plays. Prachi’s hobbies include acting, sports, listening to music and sketching.
She is the brand ambassador for cosmetic producing company- Neutrogena. Prachi shares a close relationship with friend and mentor Ekta Kapoor.
Prachi made her debut on television with the highly acclaimed role of Bani Dixit/Walia in the serial
Kasamh Se
aired on Zee TV. Thereafter she featured in the serial Kasautii Zindagi Kay and as a contestant on the Dance Reality Show –
Jhalak Dikhla Jaa
. In this contest, she was eliminated in one of the rounds but later re-entered the show via a Wild-card Entry. Thereafter she went on to be declared the winner of the show. Later she entered another dance reality show –
Yeh Hai Jalwa
. Prachi mentored five college students in this show and trained the “Masti Ki Paathshaala” team.
For her television career, Prachi won several awards. She won 8 television awards for Kasamh Se including Indian Telly Awards 2006 for Best Couple Of The Year with co-star
Ram Kapoor
and Fresh New Face Of The Year for Kasamh Se.
Prachi Desai got her break in films with Rock On (2008) with
Farhan Akhtar
in the male lead role. She played the character of his wife. The film was highly acclaimed. It won the National Award For Best Feature Film in Hindi and Prachi won the award for Best Debut in this movie. She also won the Successful Bollywood Breakthrough Award in the Indian Telly Awards for Rock On.
Thereafter, Prachi acted in other Hindi movies such as Life Partner (2009), Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (2010),
Teri Meri Kahaani
etc. Again for Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, she received several awards including Zee Cine Awards, Lions Gold Awards, Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards and Stardust Awards for Best Actress In Supporting Role (Female).
In the coming few months, Prachi will be seen in I,Me Aur Main, directed by comedian turned director
