Naseem Banu, also known as the beauty queen of Indian cinema, also as the ‘first ever female superstar’. Words cannot describe the sheer talents and beauty this historical figure held in her years. Naseem was born as Rosha Ara Begum in Delhi, she was born into a community of very skilled and artistic family. Her mother, Shamshad Begum was also known as Chhamian Bai was a very prominent singer of her generation. Naseem’s father was a man born in a royal bloodline, he was the descendant of Waheed Khan Gharana and he went by the name of Nawab Abdul Waheed Khan. He used to own a lot of land and property and had numerous businesses.
Naseem completed her studies from Queen Mary’s High School, Old Delhi. Her mother, wanted her to become a doctor. But Naseem was keen on making it is an actress because she grew up idolizing the actress
, ever since she started watching her movies. Naseem’s mother was very strict against her daughter getting into the film industry. Once upon a time, Naseem was on her vacations, visiting Mumbai, where she went to visit the sets of movies, on her visit, she was surprisingly approached by
to play Ophelia in his movie Hamlet. Initially, all the offers were rejected by Naseem’s mother as she was totally against the idea of watching her daughter in the acting world. This led to a very hilarious incident when Naseem actually went on a hunger strike until her mother allows her to let her act. Finally, Naseem’s mother had to bow down to the strong will that Naseem showed to follow her passion, this led to Naseem making her debut in 1935 in Khoon Ka Khoon, based on Hamlet. The news of this performance eventually found its way to Old Delhi, where Naseem used to study, shocked at what Naseem had just done because at that time acting was a profession, that was looked down upon as a very low profession. She was expelled from her school.
Eventually, then, Naseem returned to Mumbai to kick-off her acting career, she signed a contract with Sohrab Modi and went on to make pictures like Khan Bahadur, Talaq, Meetha Zahar and many more. Naseem went on to have a stellar career, working in over 30 movies. She married her childhood friend Mian Ehsan ul-Haq, with whom she had two children, one of them being the famous actress

married her daughter. Naseem sadly passed away on 18th June 2002.
