Babita Malkani

Babita Malkani is a renowned Indian Fashion Designer and an esteemed personality in the Fashion Industry, famous for her distinctive and creative vision of styles, both locally and globally. She hails from Mumbai and was born on December 2, 1967. Babita’s family was involved in the export of textiles and garments and she was keenly interested in fashion and designs from an early age. The love, exposure, and involvement in fashion started with her family's fashion business, and she grew up with an in-house style sensibility. Babita holds a Diploma in Fashion Designing. Babita loves traveling, and gets inspiration for her urban sense of style from her trips. She has an experience in the fashion industry spanning over two decades.

Babita started her career in 1988 with a small rented garage in Santacruz, Mumbai, with the label Whispers. In 2006, Babita launched a new eponymous label, Babita M ,which retails out of Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad ,and internationally in New York, Dubai, London, Atlanta, South Africa, Europe, and Johannesburg. She showcased her designs at several fashion shows like the Dubai Fashion Week in 2009 and at the Lakme Fashion Week. Her compositions include a mix of ethnicity, urban styles, bohemian influence, and tribal hints teamed with classical pieces in her wardrobe. Some of her favourite collections include Metalmorphosis A/W in 2011, based on industrial glamour, and Urban Nomad A/W 2012, based on a bohemian look.

On the global level, Babita got a chance to design the exclusive jackets for the winning team in the ICC Champion's Trophy in 2009.
