Sudarshan Suresh is an editor, writer, and director, born in Madras (now Chennai) and later shifted to West Bengal, where he did his schooling at St. James’ School, Kolkata. He had never even dreamt of going into film and instead had pursued Theatre and Painting in High School. He completed his BA, LLB (Hons.) from The West Bengal National University Of Juridical Sciences and then worked in a Law contract in Mumbai. Taking a New York Film Academy Workshop got him interested in films. He graduated from Columbia University with the Film FMA program.
As a student, he has directed several short films, including Mizaru (2019), his thesis film, and brought him immense appreciation by receiving The Katharina Otto Bernstein Production grant and winning the title of Best Film at the Columbia University Film Festival. Mizaru premiered at the Telluride Film Festival. Other movies he has directed include Absent (2017), which won Prix du Public at Champs Elysees Film Festival and the Student Filmmaker Award at Director's Guild of America; Khargosh (The Rabbit)(2015)- won the Satyajit Ray Short Film Award at the London Indian Film Festival and the Special Jury Award at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. He has also written the films- Mizuru, Absent, and Memórias da Maré, and edited his three self-directed films along with A Woman of No Importance, Kingdom Come, and You and Me and Her and Them.
