Although the movie failed to perform satisfactorily at the box office and recover its costs, Mumbai Can Dance Saala provided an adequate platform for the launch of Sachindra Sharma, the director. In a recent controversy during the audio launch of his film Mumbai Can Dance Saala, Sachindra Sharma was reportedly slapped in full view of the public by Manisha Kumari, an aspiring actress and a friend of starlet Rakhi Sawant, who had worked with Sharma on the film. The assailant had reportedly accused Sharma of indulging in immoral practices. She was apparently angry about not being offered a role in his film as previously promised.

Sharma has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and has accused Kumari of indulging in a ‘publicity stunt’ for media attention. He then filed a defamation case against Manisha and Rakhi, demanding damages to the amount of ₹5crore for the harassment he says he has suffered. In an interview with DNA News, Sachindra said he had decided to release his directorial debut around the New Year to take advantage of the celebratory mood of the season that would bring people to the theatres to enjoy the movie. He also admitted that the name of the movie had been inspired by a news headline on the DNA itself, in relation to the closing down of dance-bars in Mumbai due to political intervention and moral policing. Speaking about his plans for the future, the writer-director claimed he hopes to write and direct a number of other movies in the future, and asked moviegoers to support small cinema for the overall growth and prosperity of the Indian film industry.
