The same year, he was hired as the screenplay writer for 'Meri Dad Ki Maruti', the cult classic comedy about a college-going boy who brings his dad's car on a date to impress a girl and then loses the car. The movie received great reviews and did very well at the box office, which solidified Neeraj's work.

For his next project, Neeraj went solo. He wrote, directed, and produced his first-ever short film called Rewind, a story about a couple who get into an arranged marriage. Side by side, he directed the show Yeh Hai Aashiqui. Neeraj received multiple awards for Rewind. In 2016, he worked on the show Gumrah: End of Innocence, where he was the chief scriptwriter.

He did his schooling at Little Angels High School and later went to Jai Hind College in Mumbai. He holds a post-graduation and completed a master's in English Literature from Mumbai University.
