Anoushka Shankar is a composer, singer, and sitar player. She has won awards like British House of Commons Shield and Woman of The Year Award on International Women’s Day in 2003. She played sitar along with Zakir Husain, the Tabla maestro on 27 February 1995 when Anoushka was just 13 and same year Angel Records released In Celebration, four-CD box to commemorate Ravi Shankar’s 75th birthday. At the age of 16, she signed her first recording contract with Angel Records. Shankar released her first album Anoushka in 1998 and 2000 another of the album Anurag, released in 2000.

She went on a solo tour instead of pursuing further studies. Anoushka is the first and youngest woman ever to be nominated for Grammy Awards along with her half-sister, Noah Jones in 2003. She was nominated for Live at the Carnegie Hall in World Music Category. Anoushka became the first Indian to perform at Grammy Awards, and she was nominated for the second time for Grammy in Best Contemporary World Music for her album RISE.

Shailendra Barve

Shailendra Barve is an Indian music composer who has won a National Award for his work on the soundtrack of Samhita. Shailendra was born on 4th January in Mumbai. Shailendra went to Modern English School and IES Dadar for his schooling. Later, Barve took admission at Rachana Sansad’s Academy of Architecture. In 2008, Shailendra made a jingle “Mera Jahan” for Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par. With Adnan Sami as the singer, the song explores the mind of an eight-year old boy while he roams the streets of Mumbai. In the same year, Shailendra composed the title track of the comedy serial “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.” Even after nine years of its airing, the viewers continue to love the song. In 1999, Shailendra became a member of Makarand Deshpande’s troupe at the famous Prithvi Theater. Till 2013, Shailendra headed the music department for twenty-five years. At the theatre, Barve made acquaintances with several film celebrities who recommended his name to the producers for their respective projects. In fact, Barve was a part of the movie “Naach,” but people did not recognize his efforts. Shailendra also concentrated on Marathi cinema ventures as well. Barve was the music director of Gandh, Gajaar, and BokyaSatbande before he got the opportunity to work on Samhita. Being a Marathi film, Samhita managed to garner critical acclaim and win laurels. Apart from the category of “Best Female Playback Singer,” Shailendra also received a National Award for “Best Music Direction.” At the 60th ceremony, Shailendra attended the event where he got the award from President Pranab Mukherjee. In an interview, Barve rated Dennare Dennare as the most difficult one to compose. He stated that the producers wanted him to create an original song which would make the audience feel like it was a copy of a Bollywood track. Barve mentioned that he used the genre of EDM for Dennare Dennare. Shailendra also supervised the tunes for films like Striker, Detective Naani, The Smell, Ha Bharat Maza, Ek Hazarchi Note, Por Bazaar and others. Shailendra has a long-time association with SAB TV as he has composed the score of several television shows. Apart from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, he worked on projects like Lapataganj, Gunwaale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, Sajan Re Jhooth Mat Bolo, and Papadpol. Shailendra tied the knot with Mubina Bandukwala. Barve has done advertisements for companies like Astral Pipes and Aashirwad Aata. Shailendra is quite active on social media as well.
