Born on October 11, 1911, Pravin Bhatt is an Indian film screenwriter, director and, cinematographer, who worked from the 1970s to 2010s in Hindi cinema. He is the son of director Vijay Bhatt, and furthermore the dad of executive Vikram Bhatt. He debuted in the entertainment industry as a cameraman with the movie named Maa Baap in 1960 by director V.M. Vyas, followed by the film Hariyali Aur Rasta in 1962 by Vijay Bhatt. His father Vijay Bhatt gave him break as the cinematographer in his feature motion picture titled Himalay Ki Godmein in 1965 featuring Mala Sinha and Manoj Kumar in lead characters. In 1977, Pravin worked in the film named Hira Aur Patthar by Vijay Bhatt starring Shabana Azmi and Shashi Kapoor.

He became cinematographer for the movie Badalte Rishtey in 1978 by R. Jhalani featuring Reena Roy, Jeetendra, and Rishi Kapoor. In 1981, he worked as a cameraman in the motion picture labeled Umrao Jaan by Muzaffar Ali starring Farooq Shaikh, Rekha, and Naseeruddin Shah. Pravin also became camera operator for the film named Khud-Daar by Ravi Tandon in 1982 with Vinod Mehra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, and Parveen Babi. He made many blockbuster movies as a cinematographer with his father and other well-known executives of that time. He debuted as a director with motion picture Bhavna in 1984 starring Marc Zuber and Shabana Azmi, for which she earned Filmfare Best Actress honor.

He also executed films such as Khoon Bahaa Ganga Mein and Ek Hi Maqsad in 1988. From 90s onwards, Pravin began working with his son Vikram Bhatt as a cinematographer in his movies such as Kasoor in 2001, Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage in 2002, Footpath in 2003, Aetbaar in 2004, Deewane Huye Paagal in 2005, Ankahee in 2006, Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee in 2007, Three: Love, Lies, Betrayal in 2009 and many more. In 2011, he also became a cameraman for the first stereoscopic 3D horror motion picture Haunted – 3D by Vikram Bhatt featuring Achint Kaur, Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Arif Zakaria, and Tia Bajpai. Shaapit in 2010 starring Rahul Dev, Shweta Agarwal, and Aditya Narayan denoted his 100th film in his profession as cinematographer. His vocation spans from the 1970s to 2014 more than 35 years in which he made several blockbusters and memorable movies such as Umrao Jaan by Muzaffar Ali, Agneepath by Mukul S. Anand, Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin by Mahesh Bhatt.
