Suddhasattwa Basu is a well-known Indian painter, illustrator, author, and animation filmmaker. He was born in 1956 in Chandannagar, West Bengal. Basu completed his studies in Fine Art (painting, graphics, and murals) at the Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata. He started his career as an illustrator and designer for a children’s magazine company named Target. Basu’s works are exhibited in several national and international exhibitions. Some of his notable works can be seen in books such as The Story of Shangmiyang, An Island of Trees (1992), Ek Bajarbattu Ka Geet (2006), Dear Father (1998), and Ek Skeyarako Ka Geet (2002).
He received the Chitrakatha award for his book, The Song Click to look into! >> Read More... of a Scarecrow, 2003 and a special mention at the Biennale of Illustrations in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. He was honoured with the Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children (AWIC) lifetime achievement award by the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Along with his contributions to books, Basu also works on animated shows and films. He is the director and animator of India’s first animated television serial, Gayab Aya (1989).
