JÂ PÂ Singhal is an artist of Indian origin. He was born in 1934, and despite painting being considered an invalid profession for livelihood in the culture and society he grew up in, Singhal began painting at the age of 16 and founded an art school in his village at the age of 18. He eventually moved to Mumbai, where his realistic paintings of various subjects, particularly the tribal people of India, gained widespread recognition through publication in major calendars. His work has since become a staple in art schools across the country. His unique style involved traveling to various villages throughout India to interact with and portray the local people.
He began using photography to capture details like specific ornaments and garments to incorporate into his paintings and eventually became enamored with the medium itself. His photographs soon caught the attention of the Indian film industry, leading him to a successful career in graphic design, photography, and digital imaging.
